“Oh think of the home over there,
By the side of the river of light,
Where the saints all immortal and fair
Are robed in their garments of white.”
This hymn, written in the 19th century by Rev. DeWitt Clinton Huntington exhorts every Christian pilgrim to keep his head up high with the hope of his eternal home built by the LORD, in mind. The central message focuses on the Promise our LORD JESUS CHRIST gave to all HIS followers who will follow HIM wholeheartedly to the end. Assuring them that their labour will never be in vain.
Imagine someone who has travelled and been away from his family for quite some time, and longs to get back home with his family again. As we go through this dark world, let us ponder over the eternal home our LORD and SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST has prepared for all who love and serve HIM faithfully to the end.
We are to find comfort in the words of our LORD JESUS CHRIST in John 14:1-3, which says, “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in GOD, believe also in ME. In my FATHER’S House are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”
By focusing on our eternal abode, it reminds us constantly of the fact that the challenges we go through on earth are temporary and that our LORD and SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST has prepared a perfect place which is devoid of sorrow, pain, anguish and every kind of challenge.
How often do you think about eternity? Once a while? Barely? Well, have this in mind as you go through this week — “Eternity is too long to get it wrong”.
May the LORD help us all!
